“When I am laid in earth” (Dido’s lament) from Henry Purcell’s opera “Dido and Aeneas”, performed by soprano Emma Kirkby.
The part of Dido has, throughout history, been performed by sopranos and mezzo-sopranos alike, and even pop artists like e.g. Jeff Buckley have put their own stamp on it.
