We are humans working with humans; it’s beautiful and often messy. It has its challenges, for our students and ourselves, and that’s why I would like to help teachers feel more confident navigating mental health challenges in their studios. Knowledge is power, and clear boundaries will also help you to take care of your own mental wellness.
I would love to give you tools that are safe to use outside a therapeutic context, and I also want to give people an idea where they have to draw a hard line and refer to professional help (and how to do it without feeling awkward).
This is what I created a selfstudy course around Mental Health in the Performing Arts Studio, based around a webinar series I ran last autumn.
You will learn about:
- Professional Boundaries in the Performing Arts Studio
- The Trauma-Aware Performing Arts Studio
- An Introduction Into the Most Common Mental Health Problems (And Why They Affect Performers In Very Distinct Ways)
- (Music) Performance Anxiety – What It Is, What It Isn’t, and How the Performing Arts Teacher Can Help
- The Power of Acceptance-and Commitment Coaching: Ideas for Your Performing Arts Studio (And Possibly Yourself)
Have a look at the course curriculum tab if you want to find out more:
Each module contains a video lecture, video transcripts, audios and slide decks, plus you will test your knowledge with a quiz and receive a certificate of completion at the end.
You will get lifetime-access to the course – this will include every update.
We need to enter into an open dialogue about mental health in the performing arts. Our, and our students’, mental health matters. Being able to help those in our care as professional educators matters. Taking care of ourselves matters…
